How to properly and gently Bath your Pet
63
Bathing your pet
If the bath is made to be relaxing then your pet will enjoy it
and relax and not fight you if he hates it, instead he'll look
forward to it making for a healtier, cleaner pet and happier you.
It will be much easier if you gather these few things before
you get your pet ready for the bath. Place them near the tub
and within hands reach, you can put them all in a bucket or
carry all for easy storage and use.
2 towels, medium to large size depending on pet size
Cotton balls should be put in ears for bath, then used to
clean ears with a little rubbing alcohal and a few pieces of
tissue paper after the bath
Shampoo, the more natural the better and tearless is best
Tearless baby shampoo if you can't find tearless dog shampoo
for the face area
Coat conditioner or cream rinse, natural the better
A collar to hold your dog with and one that's loose enough
to rinse the shampoo away very well
Its best to buy a hose attachment that snaps easily on the tub
facet so that you can spray the whole body of your pet, getting
them clean all over, its much healthier also as any left on shampoo
can cause skin problems. You can find them available online too.
Hook it up in your home tub and your set with warm water for your pet
bath. Large dogs can be done outdoors with a hose ran from your
washing machine connections so that its a warm water bath instead
of the cold outdoor facet bath they often get.
All pets respond much better to a warm water bath, and if your pet hates
the bath, maybe its because the water is to cold and isn't comfortable and
soothing, if the bath is made to be relaxing then your pet will enjoy it and relax
instead of moving around alot and hating a bath..
As you wash, give him a nice hand massage, pet him and massage him firmly
all over, so he enjoys it, holding him in place with one hand firmly but gently on
its shoulder ready to get the collar if need be and massge with your other hand,
put shampoo or the warm water in between massaging, he'll learn quickly that the
massage feels good and then stand still enjoying it. As you rinse him with water,
massage him also and he'll like it as well.
Do not do his head with the hose, use a wash rag with water from the hose to wipe
around his face and eyes until he is very use to being bathed. Rinse very well so that
the shampoo doesn't make him itch, make sure to get his underlegs, rearend undertail,
and neck.
Towel dry pet well all over and if its cold out and you have a crate or pet carrier for them
you can hang your own hair dryer on the cage door so warm air circulates and your pet drys
faster just make sure not to leave him alone or with the warm air on the cage for longer then
10 minutes without check to see if the pet is overheating. Many pets die in grooming shops
ever year because they are left to long in a crate with warm air blowing in so be careful when
you use this method. It can come in handy in very cold weather with a very dirty dog.
Remember to clean his ears and remove the cotton balls after the bath.
Enjoy!
